I disguised myself as a 4th grader to enter a primary school and see how children are using computers and the internet to learn. I discovered that children are not using the internet just for research, but are learning how to build and use 3D easily with 3DVIA tools. This generation (ofter referred to as Generation-Z), with the power of the internet and computers, will be able to communicate on the web in 3D (see the connection: 3D and “Z”, as in “Z-axis”?)

3DVIA Shape and 3DVIA Scenes are simple tools which allow anyone, even school-aged children to build and express their ideas with just a computer and the internet…no glue necessary.

Using 3DVIA Scenes for Virtual Home Remodeling – Part 2

We have some exciting news here at 3DVIA. Our 3D Web player has expanded to include rich 3D environments which can be created very easily. 3DVIA Scenes allows users to easily add 3D models into a rich 3D environment, on the web.

See how I easily created a walk through of my kitchen remodel in this video.

Currently this is a Secret Beta project, but we are opening it up for testing. The final release will happen very soon. Try it out (you do not have to be a 3D expert to use it), and let us know what you think:

3DVIA Scenes is the next step in offering our customers the tools to create 3D lifelike experiences on the web.

Virtual Home Remodeling with 3DVIA – Part 1

See your home redesign before you make any purchase. Pick out cabinets, flooring, counter tops, with just a few measurements and 3DVIA Shape.

This video walks you through how simple it is to build a 3D space. I am currently remodeling my kitchen within 3DVIA Shape which allows me to make critical decisions on cabinets, flooring, counter tops, colors. It’s very simple to do.

Bernard Charlès Augmented Presentation from DSCC

Here at DSCC 2009 (Dassault Systemes Customer Conference), the CEO, Bernard Charlès presented connecting the real and virtual worlds in this presentation using 3DVIA Mobile and 3DVIA Shape.

3D Model uploads on 3DVIA.com, are immediately seen on 3DVIA Mobile, for the iPhone. A great way to collaborate new ideas.

User Submitted Tutorial: Building a Car in 3DVIA Shape

User Shodiq38, from Indonesia, created a full sports car using 3DVIA Shape. We asked if he would create a “how-to” video for the model, and he impressed us with this video, which highlights how easy a car can be built in 3DVIA Shape. Shodiq showed us some great tips-and-tricks that we were not aware of.

Also, if you have tips and tricks you would like to share, create a video, and we could post it as well. The reason we are the best 3D web community is our users, and their ability to encourage others, so send us your videos!

Texturing Fundamentals

One of the best ways to create realistic 3D models is by incorporating good textures. Textures can make a model more realistic, by adding details which would be impossible as part of the geometry. This is a tutorial on the basics of texture mapping.

This video details the texturing functions within 3DVIA Shape, but these fundamentals could be used within all 3D modeling applications.

Cliff aquires some help in this video from one of our favorite user submitted (textured) models: Texturesaurus-Rex.

Enhance Any Map with 3DVIA Shape for Maps

With the introduction of Microsoft’s new Bing search engine and maps comes 3DVIA Shape for Maps. It’s basically 3DVIA Shape with some navigation tools, but it can really add some excitement to your maps, and a great way to display any building models. You can build your own models, or use any public model from the 3DVIA library.
